Many search engines are now becoming extremely content oriented and give much more weight to the text on your site. Top search engine placement is also becoming relevant to how close to the the top of your page your most important information is.

Content, Content and more Content is now the "MOST" important factor. If the text content is not displayed in a proper format a search engine can not index your content. Search engine's look for keywords in many places so that they may return the best information. Therefore keyword continuity in your site is important.

By having your most important key words used with the H1 and then the other "H" ref.'s will give an added edge to your content. The H1 ref should be used only once. The H2, H3 and H4 ref can be used more then once but do not over do it! The facts below will give you a great outline. Feel free to call if you have any questions.

Just the facts.....

THE FIRST ITEM THAT A INDEXING SEARCH ENGINE SHOULD SEE ON YOUR PAGE IS INFORMATION IN THE "H1" TAG THAT MATCHES YOUR TITLE AND KEYWORDS. THEY SHOULD NOT FIND A JPG OF A GIF OR ANYTHING ELSE!

THE "H2" TAG AND THEN TEXT ARE THE NEXT ITEMS.

ALWAYS KEEP IN MIND THAT TEXT THAT IS CONTAINED IN GIF OR JPEG PICTURE FORMAT CANNOT BE READ BY A SEARCH ENGINE.

HYPER LINKS THAT HAVE YOUR KEYWORDS IN THEM SHOULD BE IN THE TEXT AND ON THE PAGE

TURN THE "ALT" ON AND USE KEYWORDS WITH IT. YOU CAN USE BULLET POINTS AND TURN THE
"ALT" ON FOR SOMETHING AS SMALL AS THAT.

SOME SEARCH ENGINES ONLY SPIDER TO A CERTAIN POINT. YOUR MOST IMPORTANT INFORMATION SHOULD BE TOWARDS THE TOP OF YOUR PAGE.

HAVE YOUR KEYWORDS APPEAR AT LEAST 2 TIMES IN YOUR TEXT AND IN 2 DIFFERENT HYPERLINKS.

YOU SHOULD HAVE AT LEAST 150 WORDS OF TEXT AND YOUR KEYWORDS SHOULD ACCOUNT FOR
15% OF THAT.

YOUR WEB SITE SHOULD BE AT LEAST 5 TO 6 PAGES!

KEYWORDS SHOULD NOT BE TO GENERAL SUCH AS "SALES", "CARS", "GIFTS". THEY MUST BE SPECIFIC TO YOUR TARGETED DEMOGRAPHICS. TWO AND THREE WORD PHRASES ARE THE BEST.

At one time all we had to do is write some META tags and we were set to submit. Those days are long gone. Key words are still placed in the Meta tags, of the HTML source code, for web pages.

Their purpose was for search engines to know what the most important words and focus of a web page are. That way they could index pages based on relevant content. They were abused so much that search engines do not find them reliable. I ma not saying to do away with them altogether as some search engine placement experts claim. I find that many search engines eclectically pick certain parts of the META tags. So use them but you need to do a lot more that have META tags.

Relevant keywords to your site is a great place to start. There is no point in getting traffic to your site that is not looking for information on your site. They are not going to buy and it is costing you bandwidth charges. Having the right key words for the content of your page is very important. Key words have been abused so much that some search engines are putting more and more emphasis on the content of your page. Some search engines do not look at key words at all. This again is not to totally discount key words in Meta Tags. They will help you gain traffic for your web site if used correctly, they can get you higher rankings in search engines that use them.

You must use keywords in the text of your site and they should be phrases that are popular search terms. There is no point in being ranked number one on a obscure word. If no one is searching for that word no one is going to come to your site. The inverse is true as well. If you use to common a term, such as "cars" there are millions of web sites already listed for that word. What is the chances of you getting your web site listed in the top ten on major search engines for the word "cars". It is probably not going to happen. Success lies in the middle ground. You must target your demographics with web pages that are content driven and use key words that are specific and will work for you.

Once you have determined these magic words, there are a few rules that I find work very well. The concept to keep in mind is that your targeted keywords have to be in your title, your description, the body of the text of your page and in hyper links at least two to three times.
